Tubular batteries have powered Nigerian inverters for years. They work — but anyone who has topped up distilled water, cleaned corroded terminals, or replaced a bank after a couple of years knows their limits. Lithium (LiFePO₄) is now the upgrade most people are making. Here is an honest comparison.
The quick comparison
| Tubular (lead-acid) | LiFePO₄ (lithium) | |
|---|---|---|
| Lifespan | roughly 1,500 cycles for a good one | 6,000 cycles (TSA wall unit, to 70%) |
| Usable energy | shortens life if drained deep | can be used fully without damage |
| Maintenance | water top-ups, terminal cleaning | none |
| Space | several heavy units on the floor | one slim unit on the wall |
| Upfront price | lower | higher |
Why lithium costs more — and often works out cheaper
A lithium battery costs more on day one. But if it lasts several times as many charge cycles and lets you use more of its capacity each night, the cost per cycle can end up lower than buying tubular banks again and again. In a country where the battery cycles almost every day, that matters.
The hidden cost of tubular
Deep discharges — the kind you get in long outages — are exactly what wears lead-acid out fastest. Lithium is built for them.
Meet the TURSAN TSA-24V200Ah Wall-Mount
- 5.22kWh at 24V (25.6V nominal), built on BYD LiFePO₄ cells.
- 6,000 cycles at 25°C (to 70% capacity).
- LCD display, 120A BMS, RS485/CAN communication.
- 600 × 420 × 200mm — mounts on the wall (or stands on the floor), about 44kg.
- Up to 6 batteries can be linked for longer runtime.
At a typical 1kW home load it runs for around 4 hours; with only lights, fans and a TV, about 14 hours.
Which inverter does it work with?
It is a 24V battery, so it pairs with our JC-AC-3.6KW (₦375,000). Two batteries double the runtime and let the 3.6KW deliver its full power. It will not work with the 48V JC-AC-6KW — for that, choose a TSA-LFP48 battery.
Wall-mount or floor-standing?
We also sell the floor-standing TSA-24V200Ah (₦869,999). Same 24V lithium chemistry and similar capacity; the wall-mount (₦1,050,000) adds the slim wall design and LCD display, and keeps floors clear — useful in flats and shops.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can it power my house on its own?
No — any battery needs an inverter to turn its DC power into the 220V your sockets use.
Can I mix it with my old tubular batteries?
No. Lithium and lead-acid charge differently and should never share a bank. Replace the tubular set completely.
Is lithium safe indoors?
LiFePO₄ is the most thermally stable lithium chemistry used in home batteries, and it releases no fumes. Have it installed by a qualified electrician.
